Holiday Open House: Decorating Aunt E's Sugar Cookies

Another wonderful memory I have as a child growing up, is of the hundreds of sugar cookies my mom baked and we all decorated. These, along with caramels and other homemade treats, went on assorted platters for family and friends. My favorite is to have a cinnamon dot for each bite! And to eat them straight from the freezer. Enjoy!

Aunt Evelyn’s Christmas Cookies

Cream together:
2 cups white sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup sour cream

Beat in:
2 eggs
1/2 tsp lemon extract
1 tsp vanilla

Stir together in a small bowl:
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking power
1 tsp baking soda
3 cups flour

Add the dry ingredients to creamed ingredients
Add 2 additional cups of flour, one at a time, mixing thoroughly before adding 2nd cup
Let cool 1 – 2 hours –do not cut this step
Roll out to about 1/4 inch – these are a little thicker than normal
Cut and bake at 350°F just until the edges start to take color.
This batch makes lots of cookies!

Cool and frost with the following:

2 oz cream cheese - softened
1/4 cup – softened
1/2 cup half and half
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
Enough powdered sugar to make thin frosting
Add coloring as desired
